Harvard Business Services, Inc.

HBS focuses on doing one thing: incorporating in Delaware. They have been Delaware specialists for a quarter of a century, and take pride in their fast and personal service (all companies are filed on a same-day basis, without extra charge). They also offer one of the lowest registered agent fees in the industry, while guaranteeing that it will remain fixed for the life of your LLC.

The history page on Harvard’s site mentions the founder’s career as Business Manager with the The Company Corporation prior to forming HBS in 1981, HBS now has over 17,000 clients.

Harvard has an unusually strong international presence, with international representatives in Western and Eastern Europe, and with the founder touring Europe, holding professional seminars marketing a Delaware to an audience traditionally oriented towards other “offshore” destinations.

Harvard guarantees it will maintain its registered agent fee at a perpetual $50 as long as your company remains in good standing and pays fees on time. I couldn’t find any information on how they’re planning to adjust for inflation, so I wouldn’t exactly consider it a viable long-term (as in decades) promise; then again, they claim not to have increased the fee since 1981. Anyhow, for now, it’s an excellent deal considering most other registered agents charge an annual fee in the vicinity of $100-150.

Services offered by HBS on top of standard agent services:

  • Electronic payment of Annual Franchise Tax online ($39)
  • Virtual office services: phone, fax, mail receiving and forwarding
  • Preparation and payment of U.S. federal tax returns or
  • New York office service including phone, fax and Manhattan address for correspondence

Note: Harvard is not associated with Harvard University.

* To be able to compare registered agent pricing in a meaningful way, I have calculated so-called Minimum and Standard Packages for your convenience. These prices are based on the fee schedules available on each registered agent's website. Refer to the Handbook for further information on how I've defined these packages.
